How will I help?

The Solution Design function in Westpac plays an important role in the development of solution designs and ensures that they align with domain and project architectures.

The Senior Solution Designer role is responsible for solution architecture or high-level designs on projects contained within a domain and which do not require the introduction of new technology or are of known complexity.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Aligned to a set of solutions within the Merchants Domain
  • Supports the solution architect in understanding current state and impacts of solution architectures for Merchant programs and projects.
  • Convert requirements and architecture artefacts to solution designs that make up the blueprint for a solution for projects that do not require involvement from a solution architect.
  • Lead alignment of end-to-end design developed by different teams and ensure that it meets business requirements.
  • Ensure alignment and provide traceability of lower-level design to technical solution architecture.
  • Support IT estimations process and assist in delivery of detailed IT costings for solutions.
  • Provide cost / benefit / risk trade-off assessments for solution options.
  • Present and explain cost estimates at required forums.
  • Contribute to the development of relationships with key IT vendors keeping abreast of their current activities within the domain or solution area.
  • Partner closely with the business so their requirements can be clearly understood and incorporated into technical delivery.
  • Investigate and recommend improvement opportunities within domain area to drive continuous improvement in changes to application solution design approach and Dev Ops.
  • Use knowledge of domain architectures and roadmaps.
  • Use Agile principles, techniques and processes and actively promote use to influence work approach and value creation.

What do I need?

To be set up for success in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Solid end to end solution designing experience ideally across payments or a merchant onboarding system.
  • Strong knowledge in solution architecture, system design and contemporary IT practices.
  • Background in systems development, support, and maintenance.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline.
  • Ability to quickly understand the functions and capabilities of new technology.
  • Supplier relationship management skills.
  • Advanced problem solving, troubleshooting and consultative skills.
  • A firm understanding of a financial services operating environment, applications, and products.
