The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Slabmaking team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Process Controller . As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

As a Process Controller you will play a leading role in the control room environment and assist in the production of our world-class products that comes through the Slab Caster. You will play an integral part of the Slabmaking process which turns the iron into steel slabs for our customers both domestically and internationally.

Working in a supportive environment, where we will continuously develop you in the role, you will contribute to the safety of our people, the quality of our product and the reliability of our equipment.

This role works a 4 on/4 off, 12 hours, day and night shift roster. What Will You Do?

As someone keen to develop their ability to lead, engage and develop an inclusive and engaged team, you will:

  • monitor and manage the processing plant and equipment to assist in the production of our high-quality products
  • utilise your dedicated technical focus to investigate and resolve plant and process faults
  • assist with improving work and safety standards and environmental systems by developing new practices and procedures
  • develop and monitor steelmaking schedules to suit customers and the plant conditions
  • coordinate movement of hot metal from the Blast Furnace to the BOS

More About You

You are passionate about improvement initiatives, problem-solving and sharing ideas with your team. You will also bring:

  • tertiary qualifications in engineering, materials or science will be highly regarded, or experience in manufacturing
  • a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others
  • high attention to detail and the ability to multitask in an (at times) high pressure environment
  • a continuous drive in improving procedures and process
  • an ability to influence peers and colleagues to meet operational requirements, scheduling and people demands
