The Role
The APS 5 Administration Officer is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex procedural, operational, administrative and business support work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to have and maintain a well-developed understanding of, and compliance with, relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements.

We are looking for a person with strong organisational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. You will be required to manage priorities, meet deadlines and exercise discretion.

As the Administration Officer you will interpret policy, legislation and procedures and provide administrative support, guidance and advice to the work area. You will also provide administrative assistance to personnel. These will be international students attending course in Australia. This is a desk-based position involving computer use and working with others towards shared goals in a collaborative team environment.

About our Team
The Administration Officer will work in an integrated work environment in a team at the Headquarters FORCES COMMAND – Victoria Barracks, Sydney (Paddington 2031). They will be required to engage with internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes on behalf of the Headquarters.

They will be required to coordinate and contribute to the work of the team. There may be a requirement to coach or supervise other team members and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance.

To be successful in the role, you will need to be a team focused individual who is able to establish and maintain strong relationships within a network of internal and external stakeholders. You will be a results oriented self-starter, have good judgement and the ability to work independently or under limited guidance. You will have great attention to detail with the ability to adapt to competing priorities and stay focused in a fast-paced environment. You will be well organised with strong administrative skills and the ability to interpret and practically apply policy in a business context. Strong problem solving skills, practical personnel administration and previous experience working in a personnel management database, ideally in a training environment. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills will be required to regularly liaise and coordinate with a broad range of stakeholders, including executives, contractors, APS and ADF members.

  • High level of administrative and organisational abilities;
  • Building/maintaining positive liaison skills with stakeholder relationships;
  • Display well-developed oral and written communication and time management skills;
  • Strong planning/time management skills, particularly prioritisation and critical thinking;
  • Excellent Judgement and a bias for action in driving outcomes, including initiative, problem solving and flexibility;
  • Skilful communicator (both written and verbal) across various channels, including face-to-face, email and phone;
  • Ability to work independently, maintaining a team focus and function in a collaborative environment; and
  • Member does not require a NV1 security clearance at application, however must be able to obtain and maintain one through AGSVA on selection.
