The role
As Principal Building Surveyor, you will be part of and lead a dynamic team responsible for providing advice , information, education and training in relation to the Building Act, building codes and standards, and monitoring developments relevant to building regulation in WA.
What does a typical day look like?
You will contribute to the development of operational objectives and lead a team to carry out the varied task relating to development of building legislation and standards including stakeholder engagement, and answering queries related to the application of building legislation. Take part in drafting publications and presentations to industry on the latest topics.
What are we looking for?
Someone who can lead and be part of a team that monitors and develops codes and standards on behalf of WA State Government.
You will bring to the role your demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and an excellent understanding of building standards and building processes.
This role will require a developing ability to engage with industry stakeholders and keep them informed of legislative changes and current training topics.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months.

We ask for you to provide: A detailed resume outlining your key achievements, work history, education and professional development and covering letter of no more than three (3) pages, addressing the following points:
- Demonstrated ability to plan and act strategically to ensure the delivery of agreed outcomes.
- Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills with the capacity to develop new and improved procedures and evaluate service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and an excellent understanding of building processes, Building Codes and Standards.
- Holds a Building Surveying Practitioner Level 1 certificate of registration under the Building Services (Registration) Regulations 2011 or is eligible to hold such a certificate.
