The role

As the Principal Building Engineer - Fire Safety you will form part of a dynamic audit team of building industry professionals who are responsible for the function of proactive strategies to monitor registered building service providers. Daily tasks for this role can include performing desktop-based reviews of fire safety engineering deliverables as part of the audit strategy for registered engineers, and liaising with other jurisdictions and industry stakeholders.

This role also liaises with a wide range of client groups such as other internal branches, government agencies, industry organisations and registered individuals which will be key to your success in this role. This includes informing the development of new policy and stakeholder/industry education programs.

We are looking for a knowledge leader with a continuous improvement mindset. You will bring to the role/team your substantial experience in the fire safety engineering field and have a sound understanding of the building approvals process.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months.

How to apply

We ask for you to provide: A detailed resume outlining your key achievements, work history, education and professional development and covering letter of no more than two (3) pages, addressing the following points:

  • Extensive knowledge of technical standards and work practices in the building industry.
  • Substantial experience in the design and construction industry.
  • Demonstrated substantial experience in contributing to the development of policy, standards and work practices in a regulatory environment.
  • A degree in Engineering with specialisation in Fire Safety (or equivalent), with eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia as a Professional Engineer.
