Carringbush Adult Education
Richmond Full-day Full-time

Description:

EAL Tutors support students in a classroom, and may tutor small groups or support individual students with specific skills development, under the guidance of a qualified teacher. They assist culturally diverse adult migrants and refugees to improve their English language and literacy skills to participate in community activities, access services and follow pathways to further courses, vocational training or employment. Most students generally have lower levels of English, from absolute beginners with low literacy (Preliminary Course) to intermediate (Certificate III).

Adult Literacy Tutors support adult students with literacy learning on a one to one basis under the guidance of the Adult Literacy Coordinator.

Adult Literacy Students may be adults born in Australia who have literacy difficulties, adults who have not had the opportunity to learn to read and write, or engage with learning, adults with learning difficulties or adults from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds who can speak English but require literacy support. Adult Literacy tutors work 1:1 with students.

Volunteer tutors can work at Carringbush Adult Education in Church St Richmond or one of our local local community venues. EAL classroom tutors can work in the classroom for up to 3 hours per week, usually on a Monday Tuesday or Thursday during the day. Adult Literacy tutors work at mutually convenenient times for tutor and student for up to 2 hours per week.

Suitable applicants are given full induction and training, as well as orientation to sites, and are required to undergo a Police Check and Working with Children Check.
