  • Permanent full-time 35hr p/w
  • Parramatta and possibility of other NSW Office locations – WFH supported
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $120,859 to $133,183 + super

The Office of Local Government (OLG) is a key agency within the cluster, responsible for strengthening the sustainability, performance, integrity, transparency and accountability of the local government sector. OLG strives to work collaboratively with the Local Government sector and is the key advisor to the NSW Government on Local Government matters.


The Office of Local Government team currently seeking to appoint a Principal Investigator to lead investigations into councils in NSW, including councillor misconduct matters (including pecuniary interest matters), council maladministration, compliance and other issues including performance issues in respect to local government.


About You

Our Principal Investigator provides accountability for decisions and the conduct of councils and council officials to promote good governance in local councils; to act as a deterrent to maladministration and poor conduct and, by undertaking the role, to promote public confidence in local government generally.

You will analyse issues and prepare documentation for Ministerial interventions in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993 and provide oversight and review of the implementation of such interventions to ensure council compliance with the intervention action. You will also manage a caseload of complex and sensitive issues, complaints, allegations and correspondence, and prepare reports on the conduct of those investigations and preliminary enquiries to a standard required for the Deputy Secretary’s and NCAT’s decision making roles.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Extensive experience in the conduct of formal investigations, evidence gathering and compliance review processes.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the Local Government sector, its operating environment and governing legislation.

Essential requirements

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated equivalent, relevant professional experience and/or training.
