The role

As the Senior Plumbing Investigator, you will form part of a dynamic team responsible for auditing and investigating complaints of alleged statutory breaches or disciplinary matters relating to plumbing work carried out in Western Australia.

You will be responsible for coordinating and undertaking complex investigations of licensed and non-licensed persons, which may involve defective and dangerous plumbing work, collecting and maintaining evidence, taking witness statements, conducting records of interview, and recommending and preparing enforcement outcomes such as warnings, infringement notices, or briefs of evidence for prosecutions or disciplinary action.

Will draw on your extensive knowledge and experience in providing advice and recommendation to the Plumbing Inspection Manager in relation to complex investigations, legislation, policy and procedures. Present evidence at the Magistrates Court or the State Administrative Tribunal, if required and play a vital role in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

  • Demonstrated sound investigative skills and extensive experience in methodically collecting information and evidence in accordance with the principles of natural justice and fairness, in compliance with the law and in a manner admissible in legal proceedings.
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and deal compassionately with stakeholders impacted by building compliance issues.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying legislation in an investigative environment.
