About the role

The Enterprise, Investment and Trade (EIT) portfolio brings together NSW’s key arts, culture, hospitality, entertainment and visitor experience groups alongside our leading economic development and investment attraction organisations.

We are seeking an experienced professional to provide technical and operational leadership for the cyber security uplift program spanning the Department, Executive Agencies, and Cultural Institutions within DEIT.

This role entails executing the DEIT Cyber Security Strategy 2024-2026 to pinpoint cyber security risks and integrate technical solutions and robust risk management strategies. The aim is to establish best practice cyber security risk management and assurance measures.

As Associate Director of Cyber Security Operations, responsibilities include:

  • Implementing the DEIT Cyber Security Strategy and NSW Cyber Security Policy throughout the Portfolio, adapting to evolving threats and agency needs.
  • Engaging in risk management and overseeing key mitigation measures.
  • Managing the resolution of problems and major incidents swiftly to minimise disruptions, ensuring high service quality and availability.
  • Coordinating with other teams to optimise external escalation routes and aligning problem management for Major Incidents.
  • Providing expertise in defining and communicating effective problem and demand management practices to support informed decision-making.
  • Cultivating strong strategic relationships with stakeholders for long-term success and efficient communication.
  • Developing performance reports, metrics, and trend analyses on problems and incidents to inform decision-making and improve processes.

About You

To excel as Associate Director of Cyber Security Operations, you'll need a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic thinking. Key skills and experience include:

  • Proven experience in implementing cyber security strategies and policies, ensuring alignment with industry standards, and adapting to changing threat landscapes.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and experience in identifying, assessing, and mitigating cyber security risks across diverse environments.
  • Proficiency in managing the resolution of cyber security incidents and problems promptly, with a focus on minimizing disruptions and maintaining high service quality and availability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to optimize external escalation routes and align problem management processes for major incidents.
  • Expertise in defining and communicating best practices for problem and demand management, enabling evidence-based decision-making to minimize service outages' impact.
  • Skill in cultivating and maintaining strong strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering long-term success and efficient communication channels.
  • Experience in developing and analysing performance reports, metrics, and trend analyses related to cybersecurity incidents and problems, leveraging insights to drive continuous improvement in processes and decision-making.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving cyber security threats and agency needs, while also demonstrating innovative thinking to address emerging challenges effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills to inspire and motivate teams, drive initiatives forward, and foster a culture of excellence and collaboration within the cyber security operations function.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Cyber Security Operations, ICT Technical Management or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience (5+ years)
