Our Team


Our Above Water Systems team designs and engineers commercial and naval ships – as well as providing in-service support capabilities. We’re proud to bolster Australia’s sovereign capability through operational support to our Navy. With ongoing training programs and a team of over 500, our people have room to grow and move as they make a meaningful contribution to Australia’s Defence.

The role


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Risk Manager to join our dynamic team at Garden Island. You will play a pivotal role in independently managing and leading Risk & Opportunity Management activities for bids, projects, programs, and portfolios within the Above Water Systems Business. Your expertise in both qualitative and quantitative risk management, coupled with a strategic and operational mindset, will be essential in ensuring the success of our projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Bid, Project, Control Account, and Work Package Managers in developing and maintaining Risk & Opportunity Management data.

  • Ensure accurate representation of work, monitoring deviations to the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB).

  • Implement a robust Risk Management Process compliant with ISO:31000:2018 and the Defence Risk Management Framework (DRMF).

  • Lead Quantitative Risk Analysis, including Monte Carlo simulations.

  • Manage Program Risk and Opportunities, ensuring proper capture, description, and assignment.

  • Coordinate and oversee Risk Mitigation projects and actions.

  • Ensure compliance of all risk management elements with IBR contractual requirements.

Your Experience

  • TAFE, Tertiary, or Qualification in Business or Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Proven demonstrated ability to manage risk on large/complex projects

  • Good working knowledge of AS/NZS ISO 31000:2018 – Risk Management Principles and guidelines.

  • Familiarity with the Australian Defence Forces Risk Management Framework (DRMF).

  • Experienced in Primavera and Scheduling Tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Open Plan).

  • Use of Schedule risk analysis tools such as Acumen Risk and ARM by SWORD or equivalent.

  • Use of Schedule Risk Analysis (SRA) tools such as Primavera Risk Analysis or Acumen Risk or similar to develop probabilistic schedules (P80 and P90, etc.) for both cost and schedule.
