Appointment Pool

Manjimup Education Support Centre (MESC) is seeking to establish a pool of Education Support Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.

Suitable applicants will ideally use explicit teaching strategies and exhibit effective classroom management skills to enhance student learning and wellbeing. Applicants should also be flexible, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to professional learning and a high-level of participation in collaborative team planning.

They will plan, program and assess using an integrated curriculum, differentiated to meet individual student needs. Applicants will also ideally have highly effective teaching practices, an ability to self-reflect and a willingness to seek constant improvement in their own practice.

We are seeking applicants who are hardworking and knowledgeable about a range of disabilities and the implementation of strategies to support and enhance individual development in all areas. Teachers in an education support environment positively manage a team of Education Assistants to create a safe and supportive learning environment for students. They engage with and contribute to the school community and work collaboratively with families, therapists, and outside agencies to improve student outcomes.

MESC is a Kindergarten to Year 12 education support centre located in Manjimup which caters for students with intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing), and/or autistic spectrum disorders. Our school personalises learning for each student, working closely with families and support agencies to plan pathways for students, to Vocational and Independent Living. Parents and families are the pivotal partners in meeting the educational needs of our students. We build positive relationships with parents in educational planning through a range of formal and informal processes. With over thirty years' experience in serving families in the Warren Blackwood, the school currently has 28 students, with intensive staff support and class sizes averaging seven students.
The centre is a 'school within a school', sharing school community and campus life with Manjimup Primary School and Manjimup Senior High School. Students have individually targeted plans and intensive mentoring with small class groups. The centre focuses on what students can do and are committed to seeing students prosper economically, being happy and secure in themselves and ready to contribute to their local community.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to :

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
