About the opportunity

The Broken Hill Rural Clinical School (RCS), also known as the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health (UDRH), is funded under the Commonwealth Department of Health's Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program.

Our focus at the BHUDRH, is to lead the design and delivery of innovative teaching and learning environments for medical, nursing and allied health students undertaking their placement in our region. We also actively work to improve the quality of health care for rural, remote and First Nations Peoples by fostering local and regional collaborations and enhancing national expertise in rural and remote health research and the translation of research into policy and practice.

Our team is distributed across the far west, north and south western regions of New South Wales. We are committed to providing the best educational experiences and supporting pertinent research in order to support the growth and development of rural Australia.

We are seeking a Senior Lecturer - Academic Career Development Lead.This is an important role supporting the Head of Rural Clinical School to supervise academic staff and affiliates across the departments geographically distributed campuses located in Bourke, Broken Hill and the Dareton/Wentworth region. The position will provide oversight for the delivery of high-quality multi-disciplinary learning and teaching across allied health, medical and nursing programs, including extended duration placements.

You will also assist the Head of the RCS and Executive Team in fostering collaborative cross-sector relationships, including First Nations community and organisational relationships, establishing sustainable rural academic career development pathways, and contributing to research performance through effective strategic and operational leadership within delegated authorities

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide strategic leadership and support for the HoRCS

  • undertake a leadership role in educational innovation, curriculum design and review, contributing to outstanding educational delivery and outcomes.

  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences which meet the University's expectations and standards for education

  • design and deliver quality educational experiences that support student needs, meet curriculum requirements,

  • design and deliver multi-disciplinary work-integrated learning opportunities and content

  • engage in supervision/support of higher-degree research students

  • apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovative education.

  • Carry out administrative tasks primarily connected with the area of discipline

  • contribute to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled

  • understand and contribute to furthering the university and faculty strategic agenda.

  • engage beyond the University to develop a profile through conferences, seminars and outreach activities.

  • undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required

About you

  • Doctorate or PhD or equivalent experience in rural health

  • Current registration or equivalent in a health discipline

  • experience in supervising and mentoring others

  • experience in people management, including managing staff performance and development

  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives

  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders

  • demonstrated understanding of rural, remote and First Nations health

  • experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching and teaching in a variety of settings.
