The key duties of the position include
The Role
APS5 Data Management Officer is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex logistics policy work within an integrated workforce. They are accountable to have and maintain a well-developed understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements.
APS5 Data Management Officer will be accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility. They will interpret and provide advice within the Logistics Management function area based on legislation, policy and procedures. They will undertake specialist research and analysis, conduct assessment and perform procedural and clerical support work to achieve results.
APS5 Data Management Officer may coordinate and contribute to the work of a team consistent to a work plan and provide advice and assistance on methods of task completion to team members. They may be a team coach or supervise a team and be accountable to set work priorities, allocate work, and manage workflows and performance. They are expected to be capable of reviewing and developing the quality of work undertaken by others and identifying opportunities for on-the-job training within a work unit.
APS5 Data Management Officer will be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes. They will be accountable to contribute towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development.
Duties including but not limited to:
  • Interpret and comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks to develop policies, processes and procedures that support logistics activities.
  • Draft briefs, reports and correspondence related policy activities.
  • Apply the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to provide logistics advice and support for a range of complex corporate, administration, and business to support activities.
  • Work collaboratively, to build and sustain effective relationships to provide constructive feedback and engagement, ensuring continuous improvement and work collaboratively with stakeholders as required.
  • Take the initiative to progress work to undertake objective, systematic analysis and can draw conclusions based on evidence to meet business objectives, provide advice and recommendations as required.
  • Coordinate and perform administrative and business support activities for the Directorate of Logistics Systems Sustainment, including supporting JCG ERP Business Readiness Program and relevant logistics systems activities to meet stakeholder needs.

About our Team
The Directorate of Logistics Systems Sustainment (DLSS) is located in Canberra and Melbourne, and is one of three directorates within the Logistics Systems Branch.
The Directorate consists of a blended APS, ADF and contractor workforce, many with deep subject matter expertise and specialist skills. It is agile to meet the changing business demands of the organisation, including embracing ERP.

  • They will be able to manage the priorities and needs of the customers to meet and exceed their expectations by being able to work in a fluid environment by remaining flexible, agile and adaptable.
  • Have a good level of computer literacy, knowledge of business transformation initiatives.
