Piara Waters Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2025.

At Piara Waters SHS you will provide a high-quality education experience for all students. You will be an integral part of the school’s foundation executive team and work closely with the Principal to promote the schools vision and values in the school community.

We are seeking applicants who are innovative and who will work with our students, parents, teachers and local community to deliver effective differentiated and inclusive programs for our endorsed education support hub. As the Deputy Principal you will display experience in building the capacity of all staff through coaching and mentoring processes. You would also establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with the school community, ensuring all students’ needs are met. Through building a culture of trust and collaboration, you would encourage staff and student feedback to contribute to decision making. You would contribute to an inclusive culture, one that values diversity and is focused on meeting the needs of all students.

As part of this role, you should have a deep understanding of the functions of student behaviour in the context of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Imputed Disability and trauma. This role would suit an applicant with appropriate qualifications in education support.

Suitable applicants will work closely with the Principal and members of the administration team to provide strategic and innovative educational leadership in the school and community. Suitable applicants will ideally be motivated, hardworking, and a highly effective leader with outstanding interpersonal skills, professional knowledge, and proven skills in working within a collaborative team structure.

Piara Waters (SHS) is situated in the beautifully landscaped suburb of Piara Waters, approximately 25kms south of Perth. The school is surrounded by luscious greenery and will form part of the vibrant, multicultural community of Piara Waters. The school commenced with Year 7 students in 2023, adding each year to its growing cohort, until it reaches Year 12 in 2028.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
