With a Digital, Technology and Innovation branch of around 40, Camden Council are seeking to hire experienced IT Leaders to help support the accelerated growth of the region. Your New Role:

Reporting to the Head of Information and BI Services, The Team Leader Data & Insights is responsible for building a high-performing team that transforms data into actionable insights. This role will achieve this by assisting in the implementation of an industry-leading data and insights strategy in an agile framework, ultimately benefiting both staff and the community through scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Engineering:

  • Oversee the design and implementation of data pipelines and architecture leveraging modern data infrastructure platforms;
  • Implement data governance methodologies and tools to automate data tracking, access control, and metadata management; and
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of robust information security measures to protect sensitive data assets.

Data Visualization:

  • Lead the delivery of enterprise data use cases and reporting requirements, ensuring the development of mature data visualizations and business analytics;
  • Implement a comprehensive data ecosystem, including self-service BI tools and cutting-edge visualization tools; and
  • Empower staff to access and analyse data independently through self-service tools, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Leadership:

  • Lead all aspects of data-related projects, including planning, resourcing, and execution;
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the data team, ensuring successful delivery of data products and services; and
  • Coordinate corporate reporting and monitor budget allocations.

Your Skills & Experience:

We'd love to hear from you if you have most of the following key experience/capabilities:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Applied Math) preferred. However, a degree/diploma with extensive experience may be considered;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing a Data & Analytics team in a complex environment;
  • Experience in extracting insights from complex datasets and translating them into actionable intelligence;
  • Experience with data engineering concepts and tools for data acquisition, transformation, and storage; and
  • Proficient in the use of data visualization tools like Microsoft Power BI and self-service data preparation platforms.

Desirable

  • Possess relevant certifications in data management, project management, or agile methodologies (e.g., DMBoK, CDMP, PRINCE2, Agile);
  • Knowledge of DevOps to build automated data pipelines and manage data infrastructure to ensure smooth, reliable delivery of data products;
  • Experience across various middleware and integration platforms / frameworks;
  • Proficiency in SQL databases and scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript); and
  • Experience working with AI and Machine Learning (ML) technologies
