To be successful, you will have...

  • Eligible for registration in the category of Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated use of recovery approaches in working with people with mental health conditions at an individual, family and community level.
  • Demonstrated advanced community mental health nursing skills working with people who have complex mental health conditions, mental state assessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention and case management practice.
  • Significant, extensive and recent experience in community based mental health nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work alone and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medications used, and experience in the dispensing and administering of medications used in the treatment of mental health disorders.
  • Current knowledge of legislative obligations in relation to the WA Mental Health Act 2014.
  • Working knowledge of computer use and information systems relevant to the position.
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence and an ability and willingness to travel including overnight stays away from home

Position Profile:

The primary responsibility of the Clinical Nurse Specialist is to provide community mental health services to clients referred and carer/s. Provides advanced mental health nursing knowledge and skills. Dispenses and administers medication both oral and for injection. Provides case management for cases allocated.

The Country Nursing & Midwifery incentive program is available to new and existing nurses and midwives - across a broad range of patient-facing roles - on fixed term or permanent contracts at 76 select locations. Eligible nurses and midwives can receive between $5,000 and $17,000 in support over 12 months (WA Country Health Service - Country Nursing and Midwifery Incentive Program).

Area Profile

WACHS Kimberley is the most northern health region of WACHS. The Kimberley region has approximately 200 Aboriginal communities, over 34 different Aboriginal language groups and 45 percent of the population are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. WACHS Kimberley consists of six hospitals, an inpatient mental health unit, three Community Directorates and a Corporate Office. WACHS Kimberley provides hospital, community health, public health, remote area health, community aged care, and mental health services across the region through a dedicated team of medical, nursing, Aboriginal health, allied health, and support staff.

This is an “open-ended” recruitment pool, and as such the following should be noted:

  • The panel will monitor this recruitment pool for applications, and will assess on a regular basis.
  • Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made when similar vacancies occur.
  • Appointments may be made from this pool until 28/02/2025.
