The Director of the Rules, Exemptions and MOU team works closely with internal key stakeholders in our policy, intelligence and legal teams, and AUSTRAC's partner agencies and international counterparts, to deliver operational outcomes.The Director leads the team that develops AML/CTF Rules, determines how the Act should apply to novel situations using the exemptions and modification powers and negotiates Memoranda of Understanding for sharing information with AUSTRAC's domestic and international partners.
The key duties of the position include
The role leads a geographically diverse team with a growing operational and strategic workload in AML/CTF legislative reform and implementation, administering requests for regulatory relief, and negotiating MOUs and information flows.
• Supporting the National Manager, Legal and Enforcement Branch / AUSTRAC General Counsel to deliver outcomes according to the branch plan and in line with the AUSTRAC CEO's strategic priorities.
• High-level liaison and relationship building within AUSTRAC and with relevant stakeholders, including peak industry bodies, government, the broader reporting entity community and partner agencies.
• Leading and managing the staff and resources of the Rules, Exemptions and MOUs team.
• Prioritising and managing the workload of the Rules, Exemptions and MOUs team to meet operational objectives.
• Developing a systems response to an increasing team workload to increase the team's efficiency and productivity.
• Directing and advising on the AML/CTF Rules, exemptions, modifications, instruments of authorisation and MOUs.
The successful candidate must have the demonstrated ability to lead people, manage competing priorities and work well under pressure, forward plan, and establish and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders.
Tertiary qualification in law and/or admitted to practise on the roll of the High Court of Australia or an Australian State or Territory Supreme Court are required.
