Description:

The successful candidate will be experienced in leading highly technical officers, providing policy advice and options to support Senior Executive and Government delegates in decision making in the complex and rapidly evolving Health policy context.

The successful candidate will provide leadership of the Section and represent the Division and Department in a range of multi-agency and stakeholder interactions.

The successful candidate will provide technical input to the development of complex financial estimates, while supporting the development of team capabilities and continuous business process improvement.

The Director, PBS Analytics and Strategic Insight Section, is responsible for leading the Section to ensure the delivery of critical information requirements to support:
  • The listing of new medicines on the PBS.
  • The formulation and evaluation of policy proposals.
  • The negotiation of strategic engagements between industry sectors and Government.
  • Forecasting PBS expenditure beyond the forward estimates
  • Responding to internal and external stakeholders' request for PBS data.
  • Assessing the validity and suitability requests for access to PBS data.
  • Acting as the PBS Data Steward.


The key duties of the position include
  • Manage and collaborate on the development, implementation, administration of and participation in policy research and analysis, including establishing activity measures.
  • Provide leadership and support to the team and across the Department in the areas of data stewardship, management, analysis and forecasting.
  • Provide high level policy, program and strategic advice and assistance to Health Executive and the Minister.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to EL1 managers and their staff.
  • Ensure optimum team performance and productivity to achieve Divisional outcomes.
  • Consult with government and the Department's senior executive on policy, program, data, budget and legislative issues.
  • Collaborate with internal and external clients and stakeholders, resolve complex negotiations and promote strategic alliances.
  • Represent the Department in negotiations, at conventions, public hearings and other forums to discuss policy issues.
