About the Group
The Collections Services Group is responsible for the development, management, and preservation of the AIATSIS Collection. The Group manages, describes, preserves, and digitises the AIATSIS Collection.

About the Program Area
The Collection Management Program sits within the Collection Services Group. Collection Management consists of the Archival Collections (Audiovisual, Photographic and Manuscript) and Collection Transformation units. Key operational activities of the program include cataloguing, accessioning, and describing the AIATSIS Audiovisual, Photographic and Manuscript collections to enhance discoverability of, and access to, these collections for all Australians. The Program is also responsible for delivering the Collection Transformation program which aims to reshape the work of Collection Services Group through new collection systems, workflows, and processes. Collection Management works closely with Collection Development and Care, Collection Preservation and Digitisation, and Collection Access teams to support the discoverability and accessibility of the AIATSIS collection for all Australians.


The key duties of the position include
Assistant Directors are key leadership positions within the Collection Services Group and work collaboratively with each other to achieve the goals of the program and the organisation, in particular to make the AIATSIS collection discoverable and accessible in culturally appropriate ways. The Collections Transformation Program (CTP) is an ambitious program of organisational change to facilitate improved description, management, and accessibility of the AIATSIS Collections. To deliver this change the CTP has five work packages: people, standards, processes, data, and systems. Given the wide impact of these work packages the CTP will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to successfully deliver the project objectives. A significant focus for the Program is the procurement and implementation of a Collection Management System, and a Digital Asset Management System.
The Assistant Director is responsible for the management and operations of the Collection Transformation Program. The role manages a small team and is responsible for program governance including reporting on program deliverables to senior management and Council. The position will manage the procurement of new collection systems, and ongoing engagement with staff, vendors, and other program stakeholders. This position reports to the Director, Collection Management.
