The Australian Border Force (ABF) currently has nine District Offices based on the Western Australian coastline.
District Operations Officers use a wide and varying range of border enforcement skills to secure the border and enforce compliance with a range of legislation. They facilitate the movement of people and goods across the border, including boarding, searching and clearing vessels or aircraft as required. They also conduct inshore maritime and onshore remote area patrols to collect intelligence and support security in Australia's maritime jurisdiction and the broader border continuum.

Officers working in this domain enhance and implement national border protection strategies by working cooperatively within the community and with partner agencies, working across a range of issues including customs, immigration, biosecurity, fisheries, police, industry, foreign affairs and trade, revenue collection, health and the environment. They engage with the local community, law enforcement partners and other government stakeholders and may participate in regional and national border enforcement operations.

Our ideal candidate

As a Leading Border Force within the Australian Border Force, you will perform an important role, working under the direction of a Senior Border Force Officer, to deliver a range of operational outputs. You will contribute to meeting business area goals and operational targets, being adaptable to operational needs, in a complex, sensitive and at times challenging operational environment.

The key duties of the position include
The work undertaken at a District Office varies considerably as each location has unique operational priorities, industry demands, risk profiles and geographical considerations. As a Leading Border Force Officer you will:
  • Be responsible and accountable for efficiently completing duties, displaying self-awareness, personal drive, common sense and emotional intelligence in all aspects of your work.
  • Understand and support the ABF vision, mission, whilst following direction from your supervisor to contribute to the business area outcomes, maintaining a positive outlook and being adaptable to change and open to feedback.
  • Operate as an effective and efficient team member, making sound decisions that comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Conduct routine border activities providing day-to-day/ routine departmental functions in respect to the movement of vessels, goods, crew and passengers across the border.
  • Be accountable for the objectives, priorities, motivation and management of your teams, whilst understanding the ABF mission, vision and objectives.
