Description:

Kalbarri National Park surrounds the lower reaches of the Murchison River, which has cut a magnificent 80 kilometre gorge through the red and white banded sandstone to create formations such as Nature’s Window and The Loop, Z-Bend and Hawks Head, with scenic gorge views at the Ross Graham Lookout and views of the town and river mouth at Meanarra Hill.

THIS IS A CASUAL POSITION

Gate duties take place during the busy tourist season from April to October inclusive. Some gate duty may also be required during the Christmas School holiday period. Gatekeepers would typically work from about 07:30am to 3:00pm, 3 to 4 days per week with hours dependent upon park visitor levels. The gatekeeper works from the park entry station 10km east of town on the Loop/Z Bend Road.

Job Description

Reporting to and under the direction of the Senior Ranger Kalbarri National Park:

  • Disseminates information and provides direction and information to the visiting public relating to Kalbarri National Park.

  • Assists and supports the daily operations of the Kalbarri National Park.

At Level 2.1 the employee is competent and undertakes under limited supervision the role of a host, guide and revenue collection.

At Level 2.2 the employee is competent and undertakes the role of a host, guide, revenue collection or supervised marketing/retail assistant.

At Level 2.3 the employee is competent to undertake the role of a Level 2.2 and in addition is competent and undertakes the role of marketing and/or retail duties.

Selection Criteria

  1. Experience (AWU Level 2.3 and 2.2) or interest (AWU Level 2.1) in working in a customer service environment, able to liaise and interact in a positive manner, evidence of good oral communication and interpersonal skills and ability to participate in activities related to promoting a natural land based tourism experience.

  2. Evidence of ability to work independently effectively and collaboratively in a team with limited supervision.

  3. Experience in information dissemination, money handling, EFTPOS and retail sales. (DESIRABLE)

  4. Knowledge of the natural environment and familiarity with Kalbarri National Park. (DESIRABLE)

  5. Demonstrated literacy and numeracy skills including the ability to read and understand and apply relevant procedures in the work environment.

  6. Ability and willingness to work weekends and public holidays as required.

  7. Understanding of work, health and safety, and equity and diversity principles.

  8. Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.

  9. St John’s Senior First Aid Certificate. (DESIRABLE)

  10. Ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training and level of experience. (DESIRABLE)

Note: The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
