The Media Centre for Education Research Australia (MCERA) is a registered not-for-profit organisation whose vision is to advance Australian education by improving the reporting of education research in the media. The aim of MCERA is to ensure that the public have a better understanding of education matters and support the quality and quantity of education reporting in the media.With education being central to the lives of Australians both now and into the future, the MCERA provides a conduit through which high quality educational research is made more accessible to mainstream media. MCERA believes that by empowering the public with accurate knowledge of education issues, they can contribute to better policy-making, greater understanding between students, parents and educators, and a brighter future for all Australians.
The General Manager (GM) will report to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the delivery of all operational activities of the Centre. This will require leading, managing and developing the organisation so that it can continue to grow and raise its national profile. A major focus of the role will be on raising subscription and sponsorship funds to ensure financial sustainability. This is a hands-on role, with the GM responsible for delivering identified outputs alone as well as leading a small team.
To succeed in this role, you will have senior level experience and financial acumen; business management and strategic planning skills; media and communication skills; and experience in working with a Board of Directors.
You will be required to foster strong partnerships with education researchers, sponsors and State and Federal Governments. Experience working in the university and education sector or a passion for education will enable you to quickly grasp the key issues, if you do not have this knowledge currently.
