Position overview
The Bureau provides products and services to priority customers on a cost-recovery basis, with annual receipts of approximately $90 million per annum. Customer discovery and product and service scoping is completed by our Customer Teams.

We seek a Business Engagement Lead who will support our Customer Teams by facilitating and negotiating formal arrangements and instruments by which work with customers and partners is agreed, funded and executed.

This is an opportunity to develop and sustain mature business engagement practices that support the development and delivery of products and services that create impact and value for a wide range of public- and private-sector customers across Australia.

Interstate travel may be required from time to time.

The Bureau is looking for an experienced leader who is dynamic, innovative, and able to lead and execute commercial engagements for delivery of technically-based products and services. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced and motivated professional, with strong commercial knowledge and relationship skills, in a role that is central to the delivery of the Bureau's Strategy.

The key duties of the position include
The successful applicant will:
  • Work with Customer Teams to translate technically-based opportunities into commercially viable proposals and arrangements, workplans and contracts that sustain product and service delivery.
  • Coordinate and quality-assure a pipeline of opportunities, taking action where required to ensure that the Bureau focuses attention on those that balance delivery risk, creation of customer impact and value and alignment with the Bureau Strategy.
  • Exercise accountability for managing delivery risk by developing project plans and forecasting budgets and staff resources that can deliver agreed outcomes for new opportunities.
  • Leverage capability that ensures the quality and effectiveness of products and services offered by the Bureau, to enable continuous and structured improvement.
  • Have experience with CRM systems; that with Microsoft Dynamics would be an advantage.

This will require the successful applicant to:
  • Translate complicated scientific and technical information into an often complex customer environment.
  • Build, nurture and leverage high value relationships and communication lines with key customers, partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Exercise judgement in engaging with a range of existing project development and approval processes and, where necessary, negotiating improvements to them
  • Build the broad commercial capacity of Customer Team members so that commercial considerations become intrinsic to consideration of technically-based product and service opportunities.
