Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they:
(a) are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
(b) identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
(c) are accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives
(d) possess knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.

Responsibilities of the Senior First Nations Community Engagement Officer will include:

* Provide advice to senior officers on human rights and anti-discrimination issues impacting on Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, relating to Commission service delivery.
* Contribute to design and delivery of the First Nations Action Plan.
* Identify needs and design, deliver and evaluate education and public awareness programs.
* Design, prepare and facilitate educational activities, and undertake projects relating to, and in conjunction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* Provide First Nations input and support to internal stakeholders relating to core business, and relevant projects as they arise.
* Organise and conduct both formal and informal liaison and consultations in government and non-government sectors.
* Liaise, consult and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to foster productive networks and partnerships.
* Work with the Manager, First Nations Unit, to report on engagement and monitor trends in engagement, enabling the continuous improvement of services.
* Lead internal and external collaborative forums relating to the First Nations Action Plan and emerging issues and matters.
* Support the establishment of the First Nations Liaison Officer network, and provide initial and ongoing development, advice and fostering of networking opportunities.
* Provide First Nations cultural advice and coaching on complex and sensitive matters.
* Contribute to a working environment in which cultural safety is prioritised for First Nations colleagues.
