About you:

You have demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying occupational health and safety legislative standards and guidelines relevant to a large complex organisation and an understanding of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 , Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 and associated Acts, Regulations, Standards, and policies. You are experienced in WHS auditing, investigating, risk management and root cause analysis leading to flexible, responsive, client focused solutions on workplace health and safety and/or injury management issues. You possess project and change management skills, methodologies, principles and practices and ability to undertake research, training, policy development and evaluation which lead to business improvement outcomes actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices.

Your opportunity:

To lead and participate in the establishment, implementation and continual improvement of the Work Health and Safety Management System working as a member of the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service Health, Safety and Wellness Team that provides for the prevention and reduction of workplace exposure to hazards and risk.

Your role:

  • Develop, coordinate, and support health and safety resources, training programs, workshops, and presentations in support of CHHHS service teams and networks.
  • Analyse work health and safety data to establish risk profiles and prioritise audit and inspection processes in facilities within designated directorates or areas.
  • Undertake work health and safety audits and inspections to support organisational compliance with work health and safety legislation, CHHHS policy and guidelines.
  • Lead or coordinate the investigation of serious incidents in facilities and facilitate the preparation of reports to management on these issues.
  • Provide WHS services to facilities and staff in keeping with departmental priorities and support local networks of appointed Workplace Health and Safety Representatives including the provision of relevant information and presenting this at WHS committees, working groups and departmental meetings.
  • Work closely with the Building, Engineering and Maintenance Services (BEMS) management, teams, and stakeholders.
