About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Resource Engineering, this is a full-time role within a key technical function.

Your team will be responsible for building water resource knowledge, developing effective water strategies, developing closure plans and influencing delivery against those plans, as well as driving a continuous improvement culture within the team and business. This will be done in partnership with site operations, external stakeholders, and other functional groups to strengthen operational performance and resilience, maximise social value and enable our future. Your ability to engage effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders and create compelling vision and reasoning for changes/improvements will be key to your success.

Specifically, you will:

  • Manage an experienced and skilled team of hydrogeologists, water engineers, closure practitioners and rehabilitation designers
  • Develop plans that enable the Asset Water and Closure Strategy, in consultation with the workforce
  • Identify work plans to meet BHP Water and Closure Stewardship Standards, and track compliance
  • Routinely review water and closure risks and performance metrics to identify and action issues
  • Scope and execute knowledge studies and design mine dewatering and closure plans
  • Deliver strategic and technical support to Life of Asset planning, site operations and growth projects
  • Provide technical input to statutory approvals processes, and compliance assessments
  • Contribute to processes and culture where water and closure is embedded in business planning and decision-making.

About You

To be successful in this role you should possess:

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering in relevant discipline.
  • 10+ years’ experience in mining and/or other heavy industry.
  • Experience in managing small to medium size technical team/s.
  • Experience in operational and/or project water/closure management.
  • Proven experience in programme management/delivery.
  • Excellent engagement, critical thinking and influencing skills.
  • The abilities and energy to inspire those around you and help make BHP a sector leader in water and closure stewardship.
