The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Hot Strip Mill team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Shift Team Leader . As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The Hot Strip Mill is a key asset in the BlueScope Steel Supply Chain that provides a range of hot rolled product into the domestic and export markets including Hot Coil Processing, Coil Plate, Slitting, Flat Bar and Welded Beam processing.

In this role, you’ll ensure the shift operations teams are focused on the delivery of exceptional performance whilst taking every opportunity to minimise cost and waste. Supporting your team and the department, you’ll focus on encouraging continuous improvement strategies, and actively supporting management during change initiatives. You’ll lead and manage the team’s success through their performance and productivity to ensure our business plan objectives and targets are continually met.

This permanent opportunity works on a 7-day roster, 12 hours - days and nights shifts. When you join our team, we offer a 14% superannuation option, an annual profit share plan (bonus), access to a number of health & wellbeing initiatives including such as our EAP provider, and fitness passport.

What Will You Do?

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will demonstrate your leadership skills and be responsible for:

  • leading and supporting the shift operations, including electrical and mechanical teams to achieve business targets and ensure operations are within standards
  • ensuring safety standards are never compromised, making suitable changes when risks and opportunities are identified
  • supervising the operational activities and striving for business improvements and manufacturing excellence
  • coaching, mentoring and developing the team to enhance capabilities

  • tertiary qualifications in engineering (ie. materials, process, chemical, mechanical or electrical)
  • a safety-first mind-set, championing the care and wellbeing of yourself and others
  • an ability to influence peers and colleagues to meet operational requirements, scheduling and people demands
  • an ability to translate business objectives to clear actions and outcomes for your team
