Tell me more... The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) positions are permanent and offers the unique opportunity to work at Primary Health Care Centres (PHCC) within the Torres Strait. The CNC will assist in the development and provision of Acute and Primary Health Care Services, mentoring and supporting the primary health care clinicians throughout Northern TCHHS. Although recruited primarily to a Primary Health Care Centre, the CNC may be required to work in any of the Primary Health Care Centres on the outer islands of the Torres Strait in response to operational demands.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation including Health and Hospitals Network Act, Workplace Health and Safety Act, and Equal Employment Opportunity Legislation and other relevant legislation.
  • Advanced knowledge and extended practice in the application of evidenced based clinical management, diagnostic investigation, and pharmacological management of patients.
  • Advanced level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult liaise and negotiate with hospital and community health providers within the Torres Cape Hospital and Health Service and beyond.
  • Advanced level of understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
  • Ability to provide advanced nursing and clinical leadership across the multi-disciplinary team that reflects the highest possible standards of relevant legislation and contemporary models of practice which includes quality improvement, nursing research and professional development.

Requirements for the role:

  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration/endorsement with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to commencement of clinical duties. Current registration with the Australian Health Practice Registration Authority (APHRA) as a registered nurse and current practising certificate is mandatory.
  • RIPRN or similar qualification or working towards is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in an isolated community.
