Temporary Vacancy
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) are recruiting for the following three Level 6 positions:
- SEMC Senior Policy Officer 013019 (fixed term full-time for 12 months).
- SEMC Senior Policy Officer 006446 (fixed term part-time for 6 months - 37.5 hrs/fortnight).
- SEM Senior Policy & Project Officer 013010 (fixed term full-time for 12 months).
All positions may have the possibility of extension and/or permanency.
This selection process may be used to fill other similar at level vacancies that arise within twelve (12) months. Applicants deemed suitable but not recommended may be considered for those roles.

About the Roles
Both positions are required to develop and maintain productive and effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including hazard management agencies, emergency management committees, local governments, and government and non-government agencies. The positions also have responsibility for providing policy advice and undertaking research related to emergency management.
SEMC Senior Policy Officer
As Western Australia's peak emergency management body, the State Emergency Management Committee (SEMC) strategises, organises and oversees the coordination and continuous improvement of the State's emergency management framework. The framework consists of the Emergency Management Act 2005, the Emergency Management Regulations 2006 and the suite of State Emergency Management documents (comprising of the State Emergency Management Policy, Plans, Procedures, Guidelines, Glossary and Forms).
DFES provides the support necessary to the SEMC to enable it to perform its functions under the Emergency Management Act 2005. The Senior Policy Officer contributes to the development, implementation and review of the State's all-hazard emergency management framework, including maintenance of the suite of State Emergency Management documents.

SEM Senior Policy & Project Officer
This position supports the Deputy Commissioner Strategy and Emergency Management (SEM) in the development and implementation of emergency management policy positions and projects.
The position also provides advice on emerging trends and issues within the emergency management sector, at both a state and Commonwealth level. Knowledge of Emergency Management is desirable.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DFES is an emergency services organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies.
Employees may participate in an on call roster and may be required to attend emergency incidents.
