Merengues Pty Ltd trading as 9 Grams is seeking full time Chef to head up our fast-paced restaurant. This position is responsible for cooking morning and afternoon tea and a two-course lunch for the patrons at our service as well as planning menus and ordering, maintaining and rotating stock in a clean and organized kitchen..

About the role

  • This is a hands-on position for a reliable, team-orientated and motivated chef who can work well in a team environment and maintain standards of excellence. Be adaptable to food policies, procedures, and standards
  • Planning menus, estimating food and labour costs, and ordering food supplies, monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Instruct cooks or other workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, or presentation of food.
  • demonstrating techniques and advising on the cooking procedure, preparing and cooking food
  • explaining and enforcing hygiene regulations
  • Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat, etc)
  • Cook food in various utensils or grillers
  • Check food while cooking to stir or turn
  • Be able to oversee all aspects of the operational running of the kitchen and its team, looking for efficiencies and best practices to keep and maintain a high level of food offered. Work with and delegate duties among members while keeping staff costs to an acceptable level.
  • Have the ability to create and compile dishes that will continue to showcase our unique concept using the finest ingredients.

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role is compulsory.

Certificate:

Minimum certificate 3 or higher in commercial cookery.

  • Attention to personal hygiene & self-presentation is essential
