About the role
The Media & Communications Officer is a member of Council’s Corporate Communications team. The team is responsible for managing Council’s internal and external communications to enhance Council’s reputation within the community.
The role is an opportunity to further your communications career in a small team that works across Council and its many functions, events, activities and projects.
Your key priorities include the development and implementation of media and communication strategies in line with Council’s strategic direction; developing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (including the media) to grow opportunities to enhance Council’s profile and reputation, and identifying suitable media opportunities and producing engaging content to promote and raise awareness of Council, its role, priorities and achievements.
Key Requirements
- A Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
- Minimum five years experience in communications, media, journalism or related industry
- Extensive experience in the development and implementation of communications and media strategies, including evaluation
- Experience in producing high quality content for traditional media and other platforms
- Experience in providing advice to internal stakeholders on media strategy
- Superior interpersonal skills with a track record of building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including management, staff, media and the community
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- A current Class C NSW Drivers Licence

This position requires a pre employment health assessment which includes a functional, audio and drug & alcohol screen.
Salary: $1,515.10 to $1,672.43 per week + super
Position Status: Permanent Full Time
Hours of work: 35 hours per week with an RDO every third week
