Job Description Surgery / Emergency Veterinary Nursing Team Leader
(12-month leave contract)
The Adelaide Animal Emergency Referral & Specialist Centre (AAERC) is a purpose-built multidisciplinary hospital. We provide referral services in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Dermatology, Diagnostic Imaging & Behaviour along with 24/7 emergency and critical care. Our collaborative approach allows for the highest quality of patient care as well as continuous learning.
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Full-time Surgical / ER nurse ideally looking for someone who can commence immediately, however start date is negotiable. The position is for 12 months ending Feb 19, 2025. This position is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to further their career in surgical and ER nursing whilst also leading a highly skilled team.
This role will see you perform the following duties:
- Perform both general nursing and surgical nursing tasks at an exceptional level.
- Lead a team of Emergency nurses.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care.
- Coach, mentor and support nursing staff.
- Drive staff motivation and productivity.
- Develop and review clinic policies and procedures in conjunction with other team leads and Business Manager
- Participate in the ongoing performance management and development of the nursing staff.
- Ensures organisational procedures are trained and adhered to by nursing staff.
- Oversee stock management within the surgery department and sterile supply.
- Demonstrates ability to implement change positively and proactively.
- Oversee staff rosters and shift coverage.

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and expertise:
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
- Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (surgical) would be highly regarded.
- Team Leader / people management experience
- 5+ years’ experience working as a Veterinary Nurse, with a proven interest in surgical nursing.
- A strong work ethic and ability to work in a team, as well as the confidence to work autonomously.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude
- Exceptional customer service & communication skills
- Exceptional organisation and time management skills
- The ability to multitask and to demonstrate initiative.
- Be flexible, adaptable and have a positive attitude.
