About the role:

The Program Manager - Research Data Experience is responsible for UNSW's petascale enterprise research data experience (RDE) program initiated in partnership by IT and PVC Research Infrastructure. Data is at the core of research practice and this role will be integral to delivering a sustainable, secure, future-ready, and fit-for-researcher capability.

The program manager will ensure program delivery through all phases including technology selection, procurement, implementation, and operationalisation of the new research data platform(s) and the aligned streams of work covering sensitive data, policy alignement, metadata functions and reporting. This role is critical in ensuring the success of this multi-year and multi-stream program.

The challenge is to look beyond the technology stack to establish all the aligned data storage and data management capabilities articulated in the 2023 Research Data Experience Strategy supporting the University's research agenda and ambitions beyond 2025.

This position will report to the Head of Research Solutions. The program team will be a mix of organic, matrix and augmented resources reporting to the program manager.

The Ideal candidate will have

  • Significant Program Management experience in delivering and operationalising technology using industry-standard Project Management methodologies;
  • Demonstrated experience in managing mulit-year, multi-stream, and mixed-resource programs through the complete project lifecycle. This includes onboarding, managing and retaining team knowledge, skills and IP during the program and transfer to operations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgment, diplomacy, and discretion and proven ability to take initiative, conceptualise complex information, and work with and manage ambiguity to achieve outcomes.
  • Superior leadership, influencing and negotiation skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships, including complex discussions and decisions with senior stakeholders with varying expectations and viewpoints within agreed timelines.
  • Sound financial literacy skills, including forecasting and managing CAPEX and OPEX budgets.
  • Strong vendor management skills.

The following will be an advantage

  • Understanding of the university sector and national research infrastructure settings.
  • Knowledge of research lifecycle and strategy, policies and practices, challenges and opportunities.
