About you:

You are a qualified Social worker with demonstrated high-level knowledge, experience, and skill in the provision of complex evidence-based Social Work assessment and therapeutic interventions for children and families where child protection risk factors are evident, ability to provide high level Social Work services across a complex and varied caseload and demonstrated ability to provide expert advice and education in relation to child protection matters and work collaboratively with other health providers, managers, and staff.

Your opportunity:

To provide high-level clinical skills, knowledge, and leadership in the provision of child protection counsel and intervention for children at risk of, or who have been subject to abuse and/or neglect, and their family/carer networks. The position may be required to work across a varied range of other clinical areas within the Cassowary Hub as directed by the Team Leader of Allied Health Cassowary. The position will work collaboratively and creatively as part of a multidisciplinary team with other government and non-government partners to contribute to a whole of system child protection promotion across the Cairns and Hinterland and surrounding Hospital and Health Services for Far North Queensland.

Your role:

  • Provide a consultation liaison service for Queensland Health staff across Cassowary Hub and other child protection partners such as the Department of Child Safety and Queensland Police Service where child protection concerns/risk factors are identified.
  • Deliver high-level social work clinical services in accordance with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics and AASW professional practice standards by providing high-level clinical skills and therapeutic intervention to children and their family/carers who at risk of entering/re-entering the child protection system, utilising evidence-based practice, and theory.
  • Deliver high-level Social Work clinical services across a varied range of other clinical areas within the Cassowary Hub as required.
  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial and child protection risk assessments and provide clinical support and guidance in relation to the outcomes/recommendations of the assessment to other clinicians working with the child and/or the child's carer/family.
