Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ) is a marine emergency service dedicated to protecting the safety of the Queensland boating community. Marine Rescue Queensland, established in 2024 is Queensland’s first single integrated state-wide service, serving the state’s coastline and waterways.In this role you will be part of the newly established Marine Rescue Queensland Unit and support work associated with the blue water rescue capability, dedicated to protecting Queenslanders in our oceans and waterways.

You will work collaboratively with volunteers and internal and external stakeholders to deliver standardised and integrated community engagement programs. You will provide strategic advice for community engagement and recruitment and sustainment focused projects and monitor interdependences across multiple initiatives to support the integration of a new marine rescue service.
Your Key Accountabilities
The core capability requirements for this role are:
- Lead, develop and implement high-level projects and initiatives that directly build and enhance volunteer capabilities to meet divergent and geographically diverse community risk profiles.
- Research, design and implement strategies in order to deliver robust, sustainable and inclusive recruitment and retention programs to support operations, meet organisational requirements and build workforce capability.
- Prepare and review complex reports, briefing notes, submissions, and other correspondence relating to volunteer issues and outcomes, in accordance with departmental requirements and governance
- Lead, manage and participate in departmental initiatives and programs to support ongoing operational improvement strategies and/or provide recommendations to enable effective decision making.
- Identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with a wide range of external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds that align with MRQ's values, strategic objectives, and goals.
- Represent the department on high-level state committees, meetings, forums and working groups to ensure best practice planning, development, review and implementation of operational policy and procedures
- Lead and manage the team in the implementation and delivery of both internal and external grants to support SES groups and disaster management stakeholders.
- Develop, maintain and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement operational policy and business rules focused on continual enhancement of the service.
Technical/Operational/Educational experience:
- Experience in developing and sustaining sponsorships, community engagements, and media campaign programs that provide culturally and inclusive safety outcomes for people living in and visiting Queensland.
- Ability to travel intra-state in alignment with service requirements.
