Position Overview:

As an experienced Disability Support Worker specializing in clients with Parkinson's disease, dementia, and mental health impairments, your role is to provide comprehensive care, support, and assistance to individuals living with these conditions. You will work closely with clients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

Applicants must have a solid understanding of supporting individuals with mental and physical disabilities for at least three years. A passion for aiding others in sustaining their quality of life is essential. Candidates are required to have all relevant qualifications and background checks, and must be proficient in English.

To be successful in this role, you must be compassionate, patient, and empathetic, possessing strong listening and exceptional communication skills. A genuine interest in the well-being and inclusion of people with disabilities is crucial.

· Personal Care Assistance: Assist clients with personal care tasks, including grooming, bathing, dressing, and toileting. Provide support for mobility and transfers, ensuring client safety and comfort.

· Medication Management: Administer medications to clients as prescribed, following proper protocols and documenting accurately. Monitor medication effectiveness and report any concerns or side effects to the appropriate healthcare professionals.

· Community Access: Support clients to access activities and outings in the community.

· Cognitive Support: Provide specialized care and support for clients with dementia, including engagement in cognitive-stimulating activities, memory support techniques, and promoting a familiar and structured environment.

· Behavioral Management: Utilize behavioral management strategies to support clients with mental health impairments, assisting them in managing challenging behaviors and promoting emotional well-being.

· Emotional Support: Offer compassionate and empathetic emotional support to clients, recognizing and responding to their emotional needs. Create a therapeutic and supportive environment, fostering a sense of trust and comfort.

· Daily Living Support : Assist clients in managing daily living tasks, such as meal preparation, feeding, housekeeping, and laundry. Adapt support techniques to accommodate the unique needs and abilities of each individual.

· Communication and Advocacy : Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care. Advocate for clients' needs and rights, helping them access appropriate resources and services within the community.

· Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client observations, activities, and care provided. Report any significant changes in clients' conditions to the appropriate supervisors or healthcare professionals.

· Care Planning and Implementation: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for clients. Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, adjusting care plans as necessary.

· Safety and Risk Management: Identify potential safety risks and implement appropriate measures to ensure a safe environment for clients. This may include fall prevention strategies, implementing behavior management plans, and promoting good hygiene practices.

· Crisis Intervention: Be prepared to respond to crisis situations related to mental health issues, implementing appropriate strategies and seeking assistance as needed.

· Professional Development: Stay up to date with the latest knowledge and best practices related to Parkinson's disease, dementia, and mental health support. Participate in training programs and continuous professional development activities to enhance your skills and knowledge.

License/Certification:

· Work Authorization: Australia (Required)

· Experience: disabilities: 3 years (Required)

· Certificate IV in disability (Required)

· NDIS Worker Screen Check (Required)

· Current National Criminal History Check (Not less than six months old) (Required)

· First Aid & CPR (Actual experience required)

· NDIS Worker Orientation Induction Modules (Required)

· Full driver license - a "Full" or "Class C" driver's license (Required)

· Working with Children Check - Employer (Required)

· Infection Control Training - COVID 19 (Required)

Qualifications and Skills:: To be successful in this role you will have:

· A compassionate and patient approach to providing care.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients, families, and team members.

· Knowledge and understanding of Parkinson's disease, dementia, and mental health impairments and their impact on individuals' physical and emotional wellbeing.

· Ability to adapt to changing situations and manage challenging behaviours that may arise due to these conditions.

· Good organizational and time-management skills to prioritize tasks and ensure efficient service delivery.

· Basic knowledge of medication administration and the ability to follow medication protocols.

· Experience and training in supporting individuals with dementia and mental health impairments is highly desirable.

· A commitment to promoting independence, dignity, and respect for clients.

· Commitment to providing a high level of Support Services with a strong customer service focus.

· Passionate about caring and committed to client wellbeing.

· Previous experience supporting people with a disability both physical and mental disability.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team.

· Effective written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to undertake essential administrative duties, including progress notes

· Flexibility to work various rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

· Understand work health and safety practices in the community services sector.

· Access to your own vehicle for service provision – must be comprehensively insured (proof Required)
