Comet Bay College is an Independent Public School (IPS) seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent, and enthusiastic Student Support Coordinator with excellent interpersonal skills.


The Student Support Coordinator, in collaboration with other staff will also identify and deliver evidence based social/emotional programs to support identified student learning needs. Prior experience supporting students through mentoring, school engagement and case management will be considered favourably.


The Student Support Coordinator will work collaboratively to assist in implementing intervention strategies which provide a proactive support service for students, their family members, and staff. This will include developing, implementing, and monitoring preventative programs to support student success.


The Student Support Coordinator will report to the Dean of Student Support and will assist in case management of specific students or groups of students. The primary focus of this role will be to support the attendance, behavioural and social/emotional developmental needs of students, identifying and resolving barriers to educational engagement to facilitate improved academic achievement. To ensure high quality outcomes for students, the Student Support Coordinator will ideally possess exceptional interpersonal skills to develop supportive and professional links between students, families, the college, and other appropriate agencies in the community.


The successful applicant should have high standards of professionalism and embrace opportunities for collaboration within and beyond the college community. The ability to work positively and effectively in teams and be open to new thinking is highly desirable. We are seeking highly organised people who have good communication skills, are solution focused and want to contribute to the entire college community. The successful candidate will ideally be able to use a range of software systems and be able to interpret data.

The college also offers students extension through Drama, Dance, Music, and Art as well as having a fully accredited Specialist Australian Rules Football Program with direct links to the Fremantle Dockers and Peel Thunder.


This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.


To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):



  • Well-developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, negotiate and resolve conflict.
  • Well developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Well developed research, conceptual and analytical skills and experience in identifying problems and developing appropriate intervention strategies and support programs.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students who are experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services

Eligibility and training requirements


Employees will be required to :



  • possess a Tertiary qualification in the Social or Behavioural Science area
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
