About the organisation

Our client is a well-established community services organisation that has been trusted by Queenslanders for more than a generation. They provide critical services to Queenslanders who are marginalised or disadvantaged or who are at risk of experiencing disadvantage.

Your role

As State Manager Community and Financial Wellbeing, you are responsible for the strategic and operational management of the organisation's Community and Financial Wellbeing programs. These programs assist members of the community who are experiencing financial hardship, or who require a range of support services including crisis or disaster recovery support. You will also be involved with advocacy and government relations.

You will be responsible for contract management, developing and implementing strategic plans (road maps) and the overall performance including financial management, government reporting, compliance and legislative requirements whilst leading a best practice environment.

In the role you will bring management and strategic experience, passion, innovation and knowledge to demonstrate effective values-based leadership to motivate and mentor people to meet strategic objective and operational targets aligned to our mission and values.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead programs and oversee all activities including managing contract engagements, service delivery, outputs evaluation and financial management;
  • Translate strategy into specific goal, targets and key initiatives to support overall business strategy;
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and work to a continuous improvement strategy to achieve best practice;
  • Ensure competency and compliance with all State policies and procedures and where applicable Government (State and Federal) requirements and legislation;
  • Manage key stakeholder engagement, tender processes and implement review processes of contract engagements and service agreements; and
  • Build, retain and develop high performing teams through the delivery of an effective people and organisation strategy that includes effective employee engagement, mentoring, coaching and succession planning.

About You

You will be an experienced community services professional with a particular understanding of the changing nature of poverty. You will be passionate, tenacious and driven to make positive change in the lives of Queenslanders experiencing hardship.

You will also have:

  • 7+ years working in the community services industry with a strong track record of program delivery at a management level;
  • Experience working in an organisation with a strong volunteer based workforce;
  • Demonstrated experience managing program operations in a state-wide organisation with multi-layers of key stakeholders;
  • Strong understanding of the political landscape and the machinery of government;
  • Experience driving a culture of continuous improvement. Formal experience with change management highly regarded;
  • Exceptional people management experience with the ability to inspire and drive high performance; and
  • Tertiary qualification in business, commerce, management, or in a related discipline (highly regarded but not essential).
