ABOUT THE POSITION:

As our Senior Employment Lawyer, you will play a crucial role in providing expert legal advice and support across a spectrum of industrial and employee relations matters. From policy reviews to dispute resolution, your strategic insights and legal acumen will be instrumental in guiding our internal stakeholders and senior leadership.

Some of the key duties include:

  • Providing high-quality, strategic, timely and solutions focussed legal advice, and guidance, in addition to internal training, on industrial and employee relations matters to internal stakeholders, including the executive team, senior management, People & Culture and other relevant departments.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of existing policies, procedures, and employment contracts. Recommend updates or revisions as necessary to mitigate legal risks and foster a fair and inclusive work environment.
  • Lead or assist with investigations into workplace disputes, grievances, discrimination complaints, or other relevant matters. This involves collecting evidence, interviewing relevant parties, and preparing comprehensive investigative reports
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop effective strategies for resolving disputes and conflicts in a timely and equitable manner. Represent the organisation in negotiation, mediation, and Fair Work Commission proceedings, leveraging knowledge of Australian industrial relations laws and practices.
  • Support the People & Culture department with staff enterprise agreement negotiations, including drafting clauses, preparing the BOOT, FWC applications and other relevant requirements.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Significant expertise in providing legal advice in relation to highly complex and time-sensitive Industrial & Employee Relations issues.
  • Thorough understanding of the Australian industrial relations landscape, including the Fair Work Act 2009 and associated regulations and enterprise agreement interpretation, including experience representing clients and employers at FWC.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal issues in the context of practical business considerations
  • An approved tertiary qualification in law, or other approved qualification, and admission to practise as a legal practitioner within the meaning of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria). A minimum of 5 years post-admission experience is also highly desirable, but is not mandatory.

OTHER INFORMATION

This is a Full-time, fixed-term role (12 Months). The salary range on offer is $117,718 - $128,897 (paid pro-rata) + 11% superannuation.
