About the role:

Solictor (723014) Dispute Resolution Team

Reporting to the Principal Solicitor, the Solicitor will support the Dispute Resolution and Inquiries unit within the Legal Services and Integrity Branch. The Solicitor role will provide timely legal advice and support across a broad range of areas within the health portfolios, which may be the subject of significant disputes, claims, prosecutions, litigation or inquiries. You will be required to assist the team all aspects concerning the conduct of litigious matters involving the department, Secretary and other executive members of the department, including in the provision of advice in relation to such claims.

As a Solicitor in the Legal Services and Integrity Branch your advice must be clear, accurate and proactive in managing risks. Under supervision, you will also be required to engage and oversee external legal firms in meeting the needs of departmental clients for advice and representation in courts, tribunals and inquiries.

The role will also support the preparation of Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions and other written reports and briefings to clients.

Solicitor (723015) Inquiries Team

Reporting to the Principal Solicitor, Inquiries, the Solicitor role forms part of the team within the Legal Services and Integrity Branch. You will assist the Principal Solicitor with a wide variety of work including but not limited to legal and strategic advice to support the Department of Health's response to inquiries, inquests and investigations.

This role will also support the preparation of Ministerial correspondence, Cabinet submissions and other written reports and briefings to clients.

This role's current focus is dedicated to supporting the department's response to the Yoorrook Justice Commission and involves close coordination with the department's Aboriginal Health Division.

Working with the Principal Solicitor, the Solicitor will interface with the Victorian Government Solicitors Office (VGSO), external law firms and the Branch to promote the preparation of high-quality policy and strategic advice to the Secretary, Ministers and Cabinet that supports appropriate and well-drafted government engagement with the Yoorrook Justice Commission and other inquiries, inquests and investigations.
