The role of an Ignite Strategic Innovation Design Lead
We're looking for someone to join our Ignite team with a willingness to work with and thrive in ambiguity + bring the ambidexterity to work in a design-led innovation team. We believe the best Igniters are those who obsess over listening deeply to our customers to help them understand and define the challenge and opportunity space they want to solve for. Igniters do so in a way that amplifies and inspires our human-centered approach.
The person we are looking for should be able to:
- Design for and inspire Vision Confidence: Build vision confidence with stakeholders and clients
- Combine Intuition + Empathy: Combine empathy, creative instinct and business savvy to listen for and identify opportunities for our customers to create value for their business and its stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams of researchers, designers, and technologists to design and conduct bespoke innovation engagements that benefit the customer, Salesforce, and Ignite
- Work with and be excited to champion Human Centred Design: Ignite take an entrepreneurial approach to strategic enterprise transformation with our customers, partners and Salesforce account teams
- Advocate for human centred design research: Match discovery goals with strategic objectives. Develop a human-centered research plan to reveal actionable insights.
- Develop original frameworks, concepts, and visions to design and shape critical conversations with customers that bring complex solutions to life creatively, efficiently and powerfully
- Participate in thought leadership: Generate provocations and stimulus that inspire the broader team and customer
- Design and lead workshops: Co-Facilitate complex work sessions for C-suite executives, key decision-makers and cross-functional teams to understand their needs and ambitions, and/or to articulate a role for Salesforce in the future of their businesses
- Articulate the value of design and the logic of design choices, while supporting a robust culture of constructive, open critique
- Show courage and flexibility in determining the level of fidelity of stimulus, presentation, and activities to effectively capture deep user insights and communicate story and strategy to the customer
- Continuously sense for what's on the horizon: Continuously monitor and share emergent, disruptive trends in strategy, technology, and business
Experience and Skills
We're looking for someone who has:
- Significant experience working in similar environments/teams
- A successful track record of engaging executive stakeholders and participating in cross-functional teams
- Passionate curiosity regarding emerging trends in innovation, business strategy, and the challenges of transforming large enterprises, and enthusiasm for using the design process to make businesses more effective, relevant and successful.
- Business acumen, with a capacity to communicate corporate strategy, business objectives and challenges
- Experience reframing business challenges as actionable innovation opportunities
- Experience collaborating with designers and researchers in a design thinking or innovation processes
- Knowledge of enterprise operations and technology challenges
- Exemplary verbal, presentation, and written communication skills, plus strong facilitation skills with an ability to balance conversation in mixed groups and manage political dynamics
- Experience and comfort dealing with ambiguity, and helping other team members through it
- Experience and comfort working in a culture of critique and iteration
- Entrepreneurial bias for action with ability to resolve problems with limited resources and input
- Empathetic and flexible in communication and work styles depending on context
- Self-motivated, a good communicator, and able to balance quality deliverables with tight deadlines.
A note on leading engagements
Our engagements range from strategic advisory to large-scale transformations and we are frequently surprised and humbled by the trust our customers place in us to help guide their respective evolutions. To that end, Ignite's bespoke approach to every engagement is a reflection of our belief that every engagement is as unique and varied as the customer requests we serve.
Here's what that means for you: Every engagement will be a new puzzle to solve, a new approach to design, a new team to work with, and you'll get to do it all while continuing to develop your skills as a strategist. So our ideal candidate is someone who can also navigate and manage a team through the complexities of engagements they themselves have designed.
Location
The ANZ Ignite team is based in Sydney, but Salesforce is office-flexible - meaning employees can work at home, in the office, at a customer site, or wherever else is needed to drive customer success. This allows us some flexibility on location, within reasonable timezone constraints.
There is the possibility of some customer-facing travel across Australia and New Zealand and some trips internationally as well.
