About you:
You have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, carers, and work collaboratively as part of a health care team with a good understanding of own scope of practice in a complex and demanding work environment. You can acquire/demonstrate the skills to provide clinical assessments and tasks as delegated by a Dietitian (including basic nutrition education). You are confident to make informed decisions within scope of practice based on knowledge of basic human nutrition and food production systems using local delegation pathways and procedures.
Your opportunity:
This position plays an essential role in ensuring patients have access to optimal nutrition through involvement in menu preparation and completion, management of nutrition support products, and in working closely with the dietitians in patient screening and implementation of nutrition care plans. This position may be required to operate across multiple sites within Cairns.
Your role:

* This role works closely with patients, caregivers, nursing staff, dietitians, speech pathologists, and food services personnel and makes use of new technologies to determine food production requirements and assist with the identification of appropriate meal items for patients with specific dietary requirements.
* Utilise high-level interpersonal and communication skills and a range of media to liaise with patients and staff, including the provision of education on meal ordering processes.
* Communicate with patients and their carers effectively, with cultural sensitivity and confidentially.
* Demonstrate a sound understanding of basic nutrition principles and diet-disease relationships in guiding patients with menu choices that optimise nutritional care.
* Collate specialised meal orders under the direction of a dietitian.
* Utilise basic problem solving and decision-making skills to provide appropriate meal options and menu modifications for patients with complex dietary requirements by applying knowledge of existing guidelines and direction received from dietitians.
