For over 150 years, our teams have played an important role in connecting people and communities across the state and we are excited to announce that we have multiple opportunities to join Queensland Rail as Trainee Suburban Rail Operators at Mayne Depot based in Bowen Hills
The first three months of your appointment you will undertake classroom based and hands on training to develop the skills required to competently undertake shunting/train movements within a large railway yard/depot ensuring safe and efficient work. During this training period no annual leave can be taken.
Please note these roles require 24/7 shift work which will include day and night shifts on weekends and public holidays.
About the role:
- Completing the necessary training to obtain the Shunter qualification.
- Following the direction of the Tutor Shunter, contribute to the timely, safe and efficient marshalling and shunting of trains by performing shunting duties in accordance with Queensland Rail's Governance and Management Framework.
- Under the direction of the Foreman Shunter/Shunter In Charge, receive instructions of the consists of trains and Rollingstock and learn how to dispatch trains from the Mayne Rail Complex in a timely manner to ensure quality customer service and
- Gain a thorough knowledge in the operation of points within yard operations.
About you:
- Safety Conscious attitude
- Ability to work both autonomously as well as in a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks
- Basic to Intermediate computer skills are essential
Candidates with a general labouring background and those with exposure with heavy machinery will be highly regarded.
