Balcatta Senior High School (SHS) is situated in the northern suburbs of Perth. Balcatta SHS is seeking to appoint an experienced, innovative, and strategic leader who is ideally committed to achieving the best outcomes for our students.


As Associate Principal, you should work collaboratively with all staff and work closely with the Principal and members of the Executive Team to promote the school’s vision and values, using effective change management strategies to achieve targets outlined in the school’s Business and Strategic Directions Plans.


The suitable applicant should be a motivated, hardworking, and highly effective leader who ideally has outstanding interpersonal skills, professional knowledge, and proven skills in working within a collaborative team structure. The role includes managing a diverse portfolio, implementing whole school operational and strategic processes, with particular responsibility for the students with learning support needs from Years 7-12, fostering an inclusive and integrated environment. The capacity to effectively lead crucial elements of both the Education Support Program and mainstream school setting is an integral component of this position. The successful applicant will have oversight of lower school programs, ensuring optimal conditions for student success and pathway progression. The successful applicant should work in a culturally responsive and context specific manner, productively engaging community stakeholders and service providers to improve student outcomes.


The successful applicant will ideally have a deep understanding of quality teaching, learning and assessment, reflecting on contemporary pedagogical practices and effective use of data analysis. They should be able to lead strategies to support the development of staff in meeting performance expectations, implementing accountability mechanisms including targeted action plans, improvement timelines, and review cycles. Importantly, the successful applicant should display expertise and leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of systemic and sustainable schoolwide literacy and numeracy action plans that ensure that students have the academic skills necessary to be successful at school, at work, and in further education.


The successful applicant will ideally enhance a performance and development culture. They should display an understanding of coaching practises with both beginning and experienced teachers and provide targeted professional learning to develop the capacity of others across all areas of the school, including non-teaching staff.


Other highly desirable skills include the ability to undertake a variety of high-level school operations including timetabling, RTP SEN Reporting, Disability Resourcing, and curriculum development. A thorough understanding of relevant policies and processes will be highly regarded.


This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.


To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:



  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS


Employees will be required to:



  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
