Purpose of the role:

The City Life directorate delivers personalised and public services to enhance community life, including family, aged, leisure and cultural services.


About the Role

Assist the Senior Waste Regulations Officer to deliver and enforce Council’s Waste and Regulations Action Plan and meet Council’s service levels and guarantees.

The role is responsible for illegally dumped waste management control and enforcement of the provision of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act and Regulations, and Council’s adopted Policies, Codes and Procedures.

Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:

  • Investigate and enforce illegally dumped rubbish offences, and incidents which involves the positioning and use of surveillance cameras.
  • Prepare and issue penalty infringement notices, clean up and prevention notices, notices of intention/orders in accordance with the relevant legislation, such as the Protection of the Environment Operations Act (POEO).
  • Prepare correspondence to inform customers and property owners of any action taken, whilst maintaining a high standard of relations with the community.
  • Act as an expert witness for Council in legal matters.
  • Provide feedback to enable Coordinator/Manager to improve the service delivery, highlight WH&S issues, and risk or compliance requirements.
  • Undertake any other reasonable outcomes identified and authorised by General Manager, Director, Manager, Coordinator, Supervisor, or Team Leader.
  • Promote the positive and collaborative culture and values of the organisation through open, fair and transparent decision making and ethical, professional behaviour.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Tertiary education and/or equivalent experience in a relevant investigative field.
  • Current C Class Vehicle Driver’s Licence.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend legislation.
  • Demonstrated word processing skills with experience using Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to customer service and quality management.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, as well as an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work outside of and in addition to normal hours of work if required.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and timeliness.

Would suit Parking Officer or Ranger/Authorised officer looking to move into a different field utilising investigative and enforcement skills, and working with the community.

Salary Range : From $66,225.05 - $74,172.19 per annum, plus Leaseback Vehicle, plus 11% superannuation
