Permanent Appointment

Would you like to work in a genuinely exciting, flexible and friendly work environment, which offers a range of benefits including flexible working hours, working at home, working in the field and working from a centrally located office close to the Perth CBD? Then the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is for you!

About us

Here at DEMIRS, we value diversity and appreciate individual perspectives that bring together a diverse and inclusive workforce that drives our innovation and success. If you're an innovative and forward-thinking individual who values collaboration and want to contribute to the next big discovery in the resources sector, protect WA's environment through responsible development of resources, protect our workers' health and safety, protect tenants and consumers, transform energy supply and emissions, or roll out new technology to deliver excellent customer service and achieve success, then the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) is the agency for you.

The role

As an Environmental Officer you will be part of a dynamic team and be responsible for undertaking environmental assessments of detailed and/or complex petroleum, geothermal and/or pipeline proposals. In this role, under limited supervision you will provide advice to the department's Executive, petroleum and energy sectors, public and industry organisations in relation to environmental legislation and policies and be involved in preparing technical advice and guidance for industry and other stakeholders. You will participate in divisional training programs, assist in preparing responses to ministerial and parliamentary questions, prepare written reports, documents and correspondence related to detailed and/or complex environmental assessments and make decisions and/or recommendations as required. You will contribute to maintaining divisional QMS business processes and participate in internal audits.

You will apply your compliance skills in carrying out the duties of an Inspector, undertake other compliance activities for petroleum, geothermal and pipeline operations, and monitor their compliance with approvals and legislative requirements. Additionally, you will be responsible for undertaking incident and compliance investigations and also assisting in mentoring and coaching less experienced staff members as required.

Your written and oral communication skills, your ability to negotiate with stakeholders at all levels, and your demonstrated experience in providing quality and timely advice on environmental management, will be key to your success in this role.

This opportunity

Please refer to the Form (JDF) attached for further information regarding the position, including any specific requirements, capabilities and pre-employment checks which will be assessed as part of the selection process.

This position is within the Petroleum Environment team, in the Petroleum and Energy Compliance Branch. We currently have one vacant full time permanent position at Specified Calling Level 2, however, additional opportunities may arise within 12 months.
