Be influential in moulding Pāmu's forestry approach

The Opportunity

This is a role where you get to work independently, managing a diverse forestry portfolio of six locations and be influential in designing afforestation programmes with an emphasis on alternative tree species.

You will use your expertise to maintain the forests to the highest standards from both a technical and commercial aspect. You will work on large scale farm forests to improve financial and environmental outcomes using traditional P. Radiata and alternative species such as Eucalyptus, redwoods, Cypresses, totara, and other natives.

Your manager is supportive and will empower you to make decisions, while the role has a lot of autonomy, you will also build strong relationships with the farm teams.

This role is based in Gisborne, with regular travel to farms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive the collaboration and sharing of best practice across the business, forestry contractors and farm teams
  • Promoting and implementing environmental best practices for forestry on our farms
  • Manage, and implement forestry work programmes including evaluating, reporting and budgeting of programmes
  • Adhere to Pāmu health and safety standards and drive effective health and safety practices
  • Remotely assist and educating other foresters on forest management topics.

About You

You will join a growing team and will have lots of autonomy within your region, so you must have a proven track record for successfully delivering forestry work programmes and sound knowledge of relevant legal and policy frameworks.

You will also have:

  • Proven experience working in a similar role or the forestry industry.
  • An in-depth knowledge of New Zealand Forestry and a relevant tertiary qualification.
  • Leadership experience within the forestry industry, including with managing people.
  • Adaptability and agility to changing environments and to think laterally when solving problems.
  • Strong relationship management with the ability to work collaboratively across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proven planning, influencing and facilitation skills.
