East Butler Primary School (PS) is committed to building long term respected executive teams. In collaboration with the principal and members of the leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community. Developing and promoting the school's mission of 'High Care and High Performance' to support students, families and other key stakeholders. The role includes leading the development of the Literacy Improvement Plan and contribution to plans in other curriculum areas. This supports the ongoing distributed leadership model in the school.

In this role, you will ideally lead Junior Primary staff to effectively implement the West Australian Curriculum and maximise student engagement. You should have experience in embedding whole-school approaches, coordinating and initiating strategies for supporting students at Educational Risk, and the ability to effectively meet high expectations and address challenging behaviours.

The Deputy Principal will combine with other members of the leadership team, to develop and lead a professional learning community that maximises student outcomes. This will involve supporting staff via coaching and mentoring to develop robust plan-teach-assess cycles based on the analysis of student performance data and encompassing intentional differentiation. The successful applicant should have outstanding communication and organisational skills, and the ability to collaborate with a range of community members. This position will involve coaching teachers to write plans for Special Educational Needs (SEN), Individual Education Plans (IEP's), Individual Behaviour Plans (IBP's), Individual Attendance Plans (IAP's) and escalation profiles. This role will also include working with high order behaviours of students, and working with the school psychologist, teachers and families to support students. In the role of Deputy Principal, a high level of resilience, and the ability to provide constructive feedback and utilise self-reflection to perfect personal practice are highly desirable qualities.

East Butler PS is a small northern suburbs school who fosters an environment of strong leadership, open communication, diversity and inclusion. Our school is located 43 kilometres north of the Perth Central Business District (CBD). There is a strong emphasis on our students feeling safe and cared for at our school.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
