Our team
The Australian and New Zealand Governments are collaborating on a project to deliver improved position, navigation, and timing services across both countries with a Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) capability. Named the Southern Positioning Augmentation Network (SouthPAN), the regional SBAS capability will be utilised by a broad range of industry sectors, including transport, resources, agriculture, spatial, and utilities.

The SouthPAN project is a joint undertaking between Geoscience Australia and Land Information New Zealand and the project team comprises people from both organisations. The project will work with the prime systems integrator, providing government furnished elements and evidence of oversight and assurance during the establishment phase. Geoscience Australia and Land Information New Zealand will continue to work with the prime following the completion of the project to maintain and improve the SBAS capability over its 15-year sustainment period.

The key duties of the position include
The Project Officer will provide project management and administrative support to the project team and contribute to the delivery of project outcomes. You will be required to work against established priorities and project management practices and methodologies to deliver quality outcomes. You will be required to perform research and analysis to make decisions that involve complex or escalated issues related to SouthPAN.

In this role you will:
  • monitor project activities to ensure work remains on schedule to achieve short and long term goals
  • develop and update MS project schedules, including associated reporting
  • lead the preparation of reporting material for project funding partners, governing boards and advisory committees and coordinate project meetings
  • manage project documentation and utilise corporate records management systems to ensure consistency and compliance
  • lead small to medium projects in collaboration with the team, including:
    • development of fit for purpose project documentation
    • identification and manage project issues
    • engagement with stakeholders to communicate project status and identify and respond to stakeholder's needs.
  • actively support subject matter experts to develop and oversee the implementation of targeted communication plans and activities.

To be successful in the role you will:
  • apply professional project coordination skills and expertise to achieve complex outcomes;
  • contribute to continuous improvement;
  • build and sustain long-term relationships; liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues;
  • monitor projects against plans; manage priorities and agree adjustments to milestones as required
  • adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical and professional way.
Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications
  • Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills in MS Project.
  • Project management diploma or current project management certification, for example, in Prince2, PMP, MSP or equivalent demonstrated experience working with projects.
