POSITION PURPOSE This position is accountable for providing strategic and high-level technical guidance, advice, and support to the business on complex employee and industrial relation matters. It will also be required to develop and implement, where applicable, relevant policies, standards, procedures, and systems in line with broader HR & business strategies. Provides input into organisational change activities and ensures compliance with Enterprise Agreements and legislative requirements across the organisation.

IMPACT

  • Work independently to provide timely advice to business customers on ER specific matters.
  • Collaborate with customers to resolve industrial disputes/grievances at the workplace level.
  • Foster and develop key business relationships with relevant stakeholders.

KEY CHALLENGES

  • Maintaining industrial harmony and resolving disputes requires strong negotiation skills and an understanding of business needs.
  • Advising on ER matters to minimise risks and costs while considering potential precedents.
  • Being acknowledged as an expert on enterprise agreements, contracts, and policies.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide expert guidance and support on employment relations matters.
  • Partner with business customers on specific ER issues including performance management, discipline, grievances, etc.
  • Lead expert ER/HR advice for continuous improvement projects.
  • Coach and share knowledge with HR colleagues.
  • Undertake ER development projects.
  • Facilitate and resolve employee and/or union disputes.
  • Support business customers in dispute resolution.
  • Lead major dispute resolutions.
  • Develop, review, and implement ER/HR standards and procedures.
  • Educate business customers on relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure contract compliance and best practices.
  • Undertake research and participate in industrial negotiations.
  • Provide support in negotiation strategies.
  • Prepare submissions for industrial tribunals.
  • Foster good relations with unions and delegates.
  • Minimise risks in ER matters.

SELECTION PROFILE

  • Extensive industry knowledge and expertise in industrial relations.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Sound interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive experience in ER/HR management.
  • Ability to adjust work style for effective outcomes.
  • Experience in large organisations in an operational/union environment.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills.
